Epic News: Sony Unveils Exciting Update on Amazon’s God of War TV Series

Amazon Prime Video eventually decided to acquire a series adaptation of the God of War franchise in December after acquiring the rights in early 2022. Additionally, Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, spoke with Deadline about the objectives of the future program.

The live-action God of War television series is now available on Prime Video. Amazon reportedly wanted to buy the rights to create a television adaptation of the critically renowned property, according to reports about the series that surfaced in March 2022. Rafe Judkins, the co-writer of Sony’s Uncharted film and the current force behind The Wheel of Time, is set to take the director’s chair for the upcoming series. The development of a TV show based on the well-liked PlayStation brand God of War is reportedly being discussed between Sony and Amazon, according to a report from last year.

According to Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling. We feel proud to work with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and [developer] Santa Monica Studio on this historic exploration of the God of War mythology.

Background: The executive producers of The Expanse, Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby, and The Wheel of Time, Rafe Judkins, are anticipated to serve as the series’ producers. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will also be engaged. According to early sources, Kratos’ early years in ancient Greece will not be included in the Amazon series, which would instead begin in the present time. Rafe Judkins is taking on show-running responsibilities for God of War in addition to his prior work on The Wheel of Time for Amazon. Creators of The Expanse and co-writers of Iron Man, Mark Fergus, and Hawk Ostby will also serve as executive producers for the series.

What Time Does The God Of War Series Release?

After spending nearly twenty years in development hell, God of War is finally getting a live-action adaptation, and even though it’s still in the early stages, there’s been plenty of God of War news. A live-action God of War series is being created by Amazon and Sony, and it will be accessible on Amazon Prime Video. Even though there aren’t many specifics on the live-action God of War cast or plot, there have been rumors about who won’t be playing Kratos. The series will be true to the original content, according to the producers.

A date for the God of War series’ debut is sadly still unknown. Fans can anticipate having to wait at least a little bit for Kratos to appear on our screens since production doesn’t appear to have started yet. 2024 might be a good guess, although fans can reasonably anticipate that if it were to happen in 2024, it would not happen until the year’s last months.

One thing that is confirmed is that the production firm is Amazon Studios, and Prime Video is anticipated to be the series’ final resting place. In order to view the show when it finally premieres, fans will need a subscription to the streaming service, which is only accessible as part of the Amazon Prime membership, priced at $14.99 per month or $139 annually.

Given that the God of War franchise consists of eight games, two of which are reboots, it is difficult to predict what the live-action adaptation of the series will be about. Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon Studios, would not reveal any details about the live-action God of War tale, but he did offer good news.
